Edward Friedman has been a member of the Department of Political Science since 1967. He created the Department's first course on human rights. He is a member of both Amnesty International and Human Rights Watch. While he worked for the House Committee on Foreign Affairs in the 1980s, he was actively involved in human rights issues, from Guatemala to Cambodia, traveling to both countries. He has published in academic venues on human rights. His courses (505 and 654 and 346) all discuss human rights issues, from China's opposition to the human rights movement to the matter of humanitarian intervention.
